How to free up storage on your phone

Photos and videos you add to activities are kept on your phone and backed up to the cloud. Over time they can take up a lot of space. You can remove the copies on your phone and still see them in the app, loaded from the cloud.

Open Manage Storage

  1. Tap the gear icon at the top right of the main screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Manage Storage.

Local Storage Usage shows how much space your photos and videos use. Sync Status shows how many files are backed up to the cloud and how many are still waiting to upload.

Free up space now

  • Tap Offload All Synced Files to remove every photo and video that's backed up.
  • Or, under Offload files older than:, tap Select timeframe and pick 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or 2 years. This keeps your recent files on your phone.

Tap Yes under Offload Files? to confirm. When it's done, Storage Freed shows how much space you got back.

Free up space automatically

Turn on Cloud Storage Only at the bottom of Manage Storage. Each new photo or video is removed from your phone once it's uploaded.

Good to know

  • Only files that are backed up are removed. Files still waiting to upload stay on your phone.
  • You need an internet connection to see removed photos and videos.
  • If Sync Media Only On Wi-Fi is on in Settings, files only upload on Wi-Fi.

Troubleshooting

  • "No synced files to offload" or Offload All Synced Files is greyed out. Nothing is backed up yet. Make sure you are signed in and connected, and wait for the files to upload.
  • "Some files haven't been uploaded yet. They will be kept on your device." Connect to the internet, or to Wi-Fi if Sync Media Only On Wi-Fi is on, and wait for them to upload.
  • "Failed to offload files. Please try again." Close Manage Storage, open it again and try again.
